Bengaluru, India - March 21, 2024 - In a move designed to address the ever-growing tech skill gap, SAP Labs India has announced the expansion of its Code Unnati initiative into Telangana. This expansion signifies a significant step towards empowering the next generation of IT professionals in the state.


Through a collaborative effort with the Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) and Edunet Foundation, SAP Labs India has established a Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad. This center serves as a focal point for enhancing skill development and employability among young people across 17 locations throughout Telangana. The focus lies on equipping students with expertise in cutting-edge technologies that are shaping the future of the industry.


SAP Labs Champions Mentorship and AI in Education

Emphasizing the importance of mentorship in this transformation, Sindhu Gangadharan, SVP & MD, SAP Labs India, and Head of SAP User Enablement, highlighted the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education.


"Gen AI presents a powerful opportunity to revolutionize how we prepare our youth for the jobs of tomorrow," Gangadharan stated. "However, the role of faculty members in this process remains paramount. Their guidance and mentorship are instrumental in empowering future generations of tech leaders."


Gangadharan further emphasized the importance of collaboration between various stakeholders. "We believe that fostering innovation and ensuring well-rounded education necessitates a strong partnership between government, corporations, academia, and civil society," she said. "We are thrilled to partner with TASK and Edunet to extend this support to technical institutions across Telangana."


TASK Underscores Balancing Innovation with Core Principles

Shrikant Sinha, CEO of TASK, echoed the need for a balanced approach. "The industrial landscape is undergoing a rapid transformation," Sinha noted. "We have witnessed the rise of Industry 2.0 and 3.0, and now stand at the forefront of Industry 4.0 and 5.0, characterized by exponential advancements in areas like AI, robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT)."


"While adaptability and embracing new technologies are crucial, a strong foundation in core principles remains equally important," Sinha continued. "Equipping students with a solid grasp of fundamentals empowers them to navigate the complexities of these advancements and become active contributors to shaping the future."

The Code Unnati program specifically targets students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. This intensive program offers over 300 hours of training, equipping participating colleges with dedicated SAP centers of excellence. These centers facilitate experiential learning in deep tech domains.


Through a combination of capstone projects, mentorship opportunities, and faculty capacity building initiatives, Code Unnati strives to create a sustainable pathway to the technology industry for underserved students.
