MovingTech, the innovative company behind the Namma Yatri app, has made a significant move in the transportation sector with the launch of its new zero-commission cab service under the “Yatri” brand in Delhi NCR. This launch marks an important expansion of the Namma Yatri app, which is part of the ONDC Network and is dedicated to providing community-driven transportation solutions across India.
Yatri: India’s First Open, Community-Driven Cab Service
Yatri, the first of its kind in India, is an open and community-driven app offering cab and auto services. Following a successful pilot phase, Yatri has now fully launched its cab services, operating on a zero-commission model. This unique approach not only makes transportation more affordable for passengers but also boosts driver earnings by 15-20%, leading to better vehicle maintenance and enhanced safety features.
“ONGC’s open architecture and network-centric approach are paving the way for better affordability and accessibility of transportation options. It brings in a level playing field for drivers with higher earnings. We remain committed to catalyzing such community-driven initiatives that put people at the center while driving India towards a future of smart, efficient, and inclusive mobility solutions,” said Shireesh Joshi, Chief Business Officer of ONDC.
Advanced Features and Commitment to Electric Vehicles
Yatri operates as a fully open-source platform, emphasizing transparency and community engagement. The app includes dynamic booking and smart dispatch processes, offering a range of services including Auto, AC Mini, AC Sedan, and AC XL Cabs at competitive prices. As part of its commitment to promoting electric vehicles (EVs), Yatri will not charge any subscription fees or commissions for Electric Autos and Cabs in Delhi NCR until March 2026.
“We’re excited to expand our cab services in the heart of the nation. Yatri is more than an app, it is a movement committed to transforming the lives of drivers and citizens. Yatri fosters close collaboration between Samaaj, Sarkar, and Bazaar to create a more connected and empowered city,” said Shan M S, Co-Founder of MovingTech.
Strategic Partnerships and Future Expansion
MovingTech’s growth is bolstered by strategic investments, including backing from Google, which has committed $10 billion to India’s digital transformation over the next several years. With this support, Namma Yatri has introduced new features like rentals and instant travel, and has plans to further expand its offerings to include bike taxis, carpooling, and even bus services.
Since its inception, Namma Yatri has rapidly grown, onboarding 49,000 auto drivers and 550,000 users within just five months, and paying out approximately INR 12 crores ($1.5 million) to drivers. The app celebrated a major milestone with 500 million downloads in March.
A Game-Changer for India’s Transportation Sector
MovingTech’s Yatri service is set to revolutionize transportation in India by offering a more inclusive, efficient, and sustainable solution. With the ONDC Network’s backing and Google’s investment, Yatri is well-positioned to lead the way in creating a smart and connected future for urban mobility.
As MovingTech continues to expand its engineering and R&D capabilities, it aims to bring more innovative transportation options to the Indian market, challenging established players like Uber, Ola, and Swiggy-backed Rapido. With its zero-commission model and community-driven approach, Yatri is poised to become a key player in India’s transportation ecosystem.
