Sachin and Binny Bansal, both former Amazon engineers, began selling books online from a Bengaluru apartment in 2007, handling early deliveries themselves. The company expanded into electronics and fashion, built its own logistics arm Ekart, and acquired Myntra in 2014, Jabong in 2016 and PhonePe in 2016. Walmart bought a roughly 77 percent stake for about 16 billion US dollars in 2018 — at the time the largest deal of its kind in e-commerce. PhonePe was separated into an independent entity in 2022.
