Bhavish Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati started the company in 2010 as an online cab booking service, after Aggarwal's own poor experience with a hired car on a trip from Bengaluru to Bandipur. It expanded into autos and bike taxis, acquired rival TaxiForSure in 2015, and ran operations in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom before withdrawing to focus on India in 2024. Ola Electric, which manufactures electric scooters, is a separately held company that listed on Indian exchanges in August 2024.
