Beat Uber on its home ground, which very few founders anywhere have done, and moves faster than almost anyone in Indian tech — into autos, then electric two-wheelers, then AI. Business Savvy is the moderate score: the international retreat and Ola Electric's service and quality problems were expensive, self-inflicted, and followed the same pattern twice.
Scores are editorial judgements on a 0–100 scale, not measured metrics. An em dash means the axis has not been assessed.
About
Co-founded Ola in 2010 after a short stint at Microsoft Research, scaling it into one of India's largest ride-hailing networks. Also founded Ola Electric and the AI venture Krutrim.
An IIT Bombay computer science graduate, he worked at Microsoft Research and filed patents there before starting a small holiday-booking business that became Ola in 2010 — prompted, by his own account, by a bad experience with a hired car. He has since founded Ola Electric, which manufactures electric two-wheelers and listed in 2024, and the artificial intelligence venture Krutrim, which is building foundation models for Indian languages.
