Peyush Bansal left Microsoft and began with a US-focused site before launching Lenskart in India in 2010, joined by Amit Chaudhary and Sumeet Kapahi. The company paired online sales with a large network of owned stores and at-home eye tests — recognising that most Indian buyers want to try frames on — and built its own manufacturing at Bhiwadi in Rajasthan. It acquired the Japanese eyewear brand Owndays in 2022 and counts SoftBank, Temasek and KKR among its backers.
