It began as the R&D division of HCL, the computer hardware maker Shiv Nadar and partners founded in 1976, and was spun off as a separate software and services company in November 1991. It operates in 60 countries with more than 223,000 employees and is the third-largest India-headquartered IT services company by revenue and market value. Roshni Nadar Malhotra is chairperson, and Shiv Nadar serves as chairman emeritus and strategic advisor to the board.
