About
Ruchit Agarwal is a co-founder and the chief financial officer of Cars24, the Gurugram-based used-car platform. He grew up in Agra and, after losing his father at a young age, took on responsibility early as the eldest of three brothers. He qualified as a chartered accountant with an all-India rank of 33, worked for about three years at Infosys in Bengaluru, and then took an MBA in finance at Cornell University. He joined Bank of America Merrill Lynch (now BofA Securities) as an investment banker during the 2008 financial crisis and rose to vice-president. A move to the bank's India office in 2014 brought him into contact with the country's startup scene and with Vikram Chopra and Mehul Agrawal; with them and Gajendra Jangid he co-founded Cars24 in 2015. As CFO he has described frugality as part of the company's culture, arguing in a 2021 interview that Cars24 put customer experience ahead of cost-cutting while treating company money as its own. Cars24 raised its seed round in 2015 and a $200 million Series E led by DST Global in November 2020.
