About
Deepak Gupta is a co-founder and general partner of WEH Ventures, a Mumbai-based seed-stage venture capital firm he set up in 2017 with Rohit Krishna. Before turning to startup investing he spent about 14 years, from 2000 to 2014, at Intel and its venture arm Intel Capital, working in treasury management, revenue management and corporate venture investments across India and Asia-Pacific; he was an investment director at Intel Capital India, and YourStory lists Sasken, Tejas Networks, FutureSoft and Omnesys among the exits he was involved in. He then co-founded and ran Equity Crest, an online platform that connected startups with angel and early-stage investors and helped several companies raise their first seed rounds; Krishna joined him there. WEH's first fund raised ₹20 crore in 2017, and in September 2026 the firm announced the first close of its ₹250 crore Fund III, which Gupta described as a continuation of its strategy of backing founders early across a wider range of sectors. He holds a BTech from IIT Bombay and an MBA and MS in finance from the University of Maryland.
At WEH's launch, Gupta said the fund was targeting a ₹40 crore corpus raised from CXOs, startup executives, family offices and college alumni, with an interest in content platforms, gaming and AR/VR. The firm's portfolio now spans more than 30 companies, including smallcase, Jar, Pratilipi, Animall, MasterChow and AppsForBharat. WEH says Fund I has returned 1.4 times its capital and that Fund II, launched in 2020, has returned capital through one exit. Fund III, backed by Nordic fund-of-funds Play Capital and family offices, has committed to eight startups so far, including Fragaria, Praan Health and PlayBlue.
